My second attempt at using no outlines... this didn't work anywhere near as well as my first attempt. Funny how with art often the accidental, unplanned images are better than the ones that take a lot more effort.

Part of my mistake with this was not planning more carefully, and not having as dynamic a lighting. I think for this technique to work well high contrast is essential. Plus, I dove into the intense eight- and six-stroke crosshatching too soon, leaving me with no deeper black to resort to. It would have been better to start out with at most a four-stroke crosshatch as the darkest tones, thus leaving the option to come back and add the ~22 degree hatching of the 5th through 8th crosshatch layers.

Meh.

Eh, almost forgot... 4.5x8", 0.18 rapidograph on bristol
