Official Inktober Prompt #1: 'Swift'

The first thing that came to mind was an English cutter; the larger ones especially were notorious for their speed and raffish reputation, many being involved in the smuggling trade.  Naturally, Customs would employ the same sort of vessel, and the type also found good use in the Royal Navy.  Here's a generic mid-size cutter setting barely half of the canvas that they could spread in fair weather; the full sail plan could get pretty ridiculous.  This is drawn with reference to a painting by Thomas Luny in one of my reference books.

I used a couple of old brushes and some mystery ink for this; a Windsor and Newton University Series #1 for the broad wash stuff, and a 'Sceptre Gold 000' Sable/Synthetic blend, also by Windsor and Newton, for the finer lines.  Paper is a block of Strathmore Watercolor [sic] cold press, block (9" x 12", 140lb paper).  All supplies are a minimum of a decade old.

The ink I used was a mystery bottle labelled 'Royal Blue Writing Ink' with absolutely zero other information printed on it; I remember that it came in a box containing a croquil pen that was literally a crow feather with nib holder attached (I hope I still have it somewhere, if the innumerable relocations I've gone through have not destroyed it.)

Anyway, I'm not going to have any theme for Inktober this year, unlike last year.  The illness which I'm still recovering from killed any elaborate notions of doing a month long comic thing like I tried last year; instead, I'm just going to think of something to go with each official daily prompt and leave it at that.  It might be a ship, or a horse, or a person, or a thing or whatever, who knows.  My plate is basically completely loaded for the entire month so I don't have the luxury of devoting each day to an elaborate ink drawing.

Oh and these colours are completely wrong and I could scan this better, but I'm tired and I'll fix it in the morning.

:dead: I'll be your huckleberry!

Wow, this one is really nice. And it may give me some ideas :p. I can't imagine the difficulty of drawing those sails.
