I'm learning a lot from the book on French ships I got for my birthday.

Converting ships of the line into frigates is not unusual, but most often they're converted by cutting the ship down by a deck (making it into what is known as a razée). In this case, the conversion was done by closing up the lower deck ports while keeping the upper decks more or less intact. The ship was disposed of by the Royal Navy 6 months after its capture, implying that it was not a successful design.
French frigates often had little cabins on the quarterdeck ('dunettes') that interfered with the sailing qualities of the ship and were almost always removed upon capture by the English. In this case, this frigate has a full-blown roundhouse or poop deck extending all the way to the mizen.

Excellent. Probably one of the most beautiful cruisers of the late 18th century!
